Chippewa Travellers

Chippewa Travellers; All My Relations Winner 2010 Aboriginal Music Awards, Best Traditional Powwow & Best Aboriginal Album Cover

We are an Aniishinaabeg family drum group originally from Chippewas of Nawash, Cape Croker reservation (Neyaashingaming) in Ontario, Canada, but now reside in the Southern/Central area of Ontario. We are located on the eastern shore of the Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula on Georgian Bay. Our nation is named in honour of Chief Nawash, who fought along side Tecumseh in the war of 1812. Our group has 15+ members and started singing as Chippewa Travellers in 1998. We are primarily a northern style drum group, but we also enjoy singing contemporary and southern styles when it is appropriate. Our group has grown up singing within the powwow (Helushka) society, and are very grateful to the many teachers, friends and family members who guided us in proper drum and powwow etiquette, and have supported us over the years.

Love Zaagidwin

Of all the Anishinaabe values we possess, love is probably the most influential. The Anishinaabe understands love can encompass many dynamics, sometimes the source of our deepest pleasures/happiness and our deepest agonies. Everywhere we look, nature, society, learning relationships and family, love affects all aspects of our lives.

RLive @ Wikwemikong 2013

We the Chippewa Travellers, give thanks for all the love and support that we have received on the powwow trail. Our group has been together since 1998, which is really special since we all have to travelmany miles to come together to sing.  We would like to thank the community of Wikwemikong in allowing us to record at their 53rd Wikwemikong Contest Powwow.
