Sitting Bear Singers

Sitting Bear Singers

Sitting Bear came together in 2010 although we have been singing since we were young. The love of singing, the love of being together gave us the perseverance and commitment to hold our connection and keep playing. Considering most of us around the drum were bear clan, we figured Sitting Bear was appropriate. We grew up around the drum. As young kids we ran around powwows together, getting into trouble, making our mothers worried sick looking for us… but that’s part of being brought up in powwow families. We sing mostly contemporary songs, although we grew up listening to old style. Our teachings come from people across this great land. Being taught many different ways, we share these teachings, amongst ourselves, through ceremony, song and dance. We give credit to so many who have influenced our lives. The teachers and teachings that have been shown to us, have taught us to cherish life and always look towards happiness. Many thanks to all of you….

“Where the Wind Takes Us”

We recorded this cd, to show our unity amongst our singers in a difficult time. The challenges that we were going through at the time of the recording opened to us an honoring of our lives and those around us. The memories of those we love will always be with us as we sing our songs…

We would like to thank The Curve Lake Powwow, Tribal Spirit Music, Rob and Errol, and all those involved, we had a blast recording. Thank-you to the communities, where we sang our songs, the creator for the ability to share our songs, our families who have supported and stood by us, and the fans who have pushed us to record… We love you all… We would also like to express our thanks to Star Lodge and those who sang with us in the past and whose journey has taken them elsewhere.
