We live in the Laurentian Mountains north of Montreal where white ash trees are abundant. We have a local farmer who selectively manages his forest and harvests limited trees per year. We bought this wood several years ago and have been air drying it above our workshop. We then cut, plane, then cut again and created a 16 sided frame drum that is 16” diameter and 3” deep.
We are using Elk on these drums and specifically selecting the thicker part between the shoulders. The white ash is a hard wood which helps the hide produce a deep rich tone. We always wrap our hide over to the back of the drum, because this makes a stronger, longer lasting drum. We use Tung Oil on the inside of the ash frame to bring out the colours of the natural wood. This is a special drum, and we hope you like it. Add a moose drum bag to protect your drum and get $25 off the set. The absolute BEST way to protect your drum from humidity changes is to cover your drum in leather…the classiest way is with one of our beautiful drum bags.
