Black Bear Drums

We have been pulling drums for about 30 years and Bear drums are our absolute favourite drums to both pull and play. They are medicine drums that do amazing work and are very powerful. Bear skin is different than other hides. The surface is very patterned and dramatic with the pores on the skin very visible. Bear hide is very particular and hard to work with. The don’t stretch like other hides…they just need to be put together rather than pulled. These bear are legally harvested for food as part of the Quebec spring bear hunt. This week I dove into these hides and pulled a bunch of wonderful drums. Enjoy.
