This is wild Moose from the Laurentian Mountains north of Montreal. We gather them from hunters and have them tanned at a local tannery. Our 5 1/2 ounce is perfect for making drum bags, purses, laptop bags etc. Generally people use a hole punch and weave together with thin strips of 1/4″ wide leather. We do not sell lacing, but in our supply section you can find a rotary cutter which is how we cut all our lacing as well as all of our drum bags and other patterns. 5 1/2 ounce is also use by some moccasin makers (real serious pros) who are using awls to punch through the leather. We are now offering seconds for some of our leather….when people are removing a moose from the forest the grain/skin side can get scratched. SO on the seconds leather the smooth side won’t be perfect…BUT the suede is is 100%. So if your project involved suede side out, then this is a great way to save some $$.
