Cork Full Moose Leather 3 1/2 ounce. Cork is a rusty brown colour is striking no matter what you make with it. As a wild hide cork moose highlights the variations in a moose hide. Full moose show the life and experience of a moose. There are bumps, warts and scars in the skin and cork makes it visible. But for artistic creativity those ‘imperfections’ allow for tons of creativity. Cork make just the most beautiful moccasins, mitts, bags etc. We have seen a few vest and jackets made with cork and they are breathtaking. (suede side is a very even medium brown) Laying out a pattern on a full moose hide is quite a privilege and tons of fun. But it does take quite a bit of courage to make the first cut with the scissors. lol…..once again we on’y have a limited number of these full hides….there are holes in some of the hides but generally around the sides and not serious ones. Our seconds have a few mores holes but both the smooth side and suede side are very useable. (really bad hides we keep and work ourselves)
Our leather gathered from animals that lived in the Laurentian Mountains, north of Montreal in Canada. Each year during hunting season we recuperate hides from hunters who are feeding their families, but don’t need the hides. We gather them, process them and have them tanned at a local tannery (not brain tanned). It is in our Native tradition to waste as little as possible.
