This is wild Moose Raw Hide from the Laurentian Mountains north of Montreal. Rawhide is used to make Powwow Drums and Rattles. Raw hide is not leather….it has not been tanned….The process of creating rawhide involves removing the hair and thats it!! When soaked in water overnight it will become soft (like skin) and then when stretched over a drum and dried the skin becomes hard and sings…..Moose hide for hand drums must be thinner than those used for powwow drums. We will select a nice hide and that will make an amazing hand drum. We recommend one 16″ to 18″ drum per piece.
