Brain Tanned Deer!! The traditional / historic way to turn a hide into leather is using the brain of the animal at the tanning agent. The chemicals in every animal (yup us too I guess) will tan their own hide into leather.
It requires an enormous amount of labour, patience and also skill to make good Brain Tanned Leather. We have teamed up with someone locally who is doing amazing work.
This weeks hides are lightly Smoked Brain Tanned. They smell softly of smoke, not too overwhelming which can sometimes be the case. Smoking of a hide changes the structure and make the leather more waterproof.
