Introducing the Tribal Spirit Water Drum. We have been making drums for about 25 years….and for about 24 1/2 years people have been asking us to make Water Drums. Water drums come from a bunch of different Nations. The Iroquois Nations, Apache and The Native American Church all are devoted to the Water Drum. A water drum is a water tight container with a thin piece of leather (wet) that fastens on the the top of the drum very tightly with a steamed ash band. The tone is quite unusual and changes pitch as the skin get splashed with water from the inside of the drum. So the tone starts really high…splash up a bit and water hits the leather and the tone drops. Our water drum are available in Maple and Cherry woods harvested here in Quebec. We made a 16 sided circle, with a solid wood bottom and they are 8″ in diameter. The inside of the drum has been treated with 3 coats of waterproof varnish. The band is made of steamed white ash wrapped with moose leather. We are offering our drum with either deer split leather or unsmoked brain tanned deer. (the drum with white leather is the brain tanned option/ gold is deer split)
